2️⃣ BD is a key part of the team’s development: vital for the firm’s future.
3️⃣ Neither you nor the firm can afford to rely on a few rainmakers at the top.
Some key tips in this area are:
✅ Be clear on your strategy and how it fits in with the firm’s overall.
✅ Communicate this to the team.
✅ Make sure BD is not second best to working current files.
✅ Play to your team’s strengths, but…
✅ Don’t make assumptions: train and develop
✅ Client relationship skills are as vital as seminars, networking etc: you want lawyers who can turn Matter 1 into Matter 10 💰 .
✅ Teach them to grow their networks as a long term and steady habit.
✅ Make sure internal and external marketers work closely with the team.
